Broke a tooth in an accident or sporting injury? Even if there's no pain yet, the clock is ticking. Exposed inner tooth structure is vulnerable to infection, and sharp edges can cut your tongue or cheeks. Every day you delay, bacteria penetrate deeper, transforming a simple cosmetic fix into an expensive root canal or extraction.

We provide same-day tooth repairs at our South Kensington clinic. Using advanced composite bonding and digital imaging, we'll restore your tooth's strength and appearance in a single visit. No temporary fixes, no waiting weeks for lab work. Walk out with your smile restored.

Types of Tooth Fractures

Understanding the severity of the break helps determine the treatment:

1. Craze Lines

These are tiny, hairline cracks in the outer enamel. They are very common in adults and usually painless. They rarely require treatment unless for cosmetic reasons.

2. Fractured Cusp

A piece of the tooth's chewing surface (cusp) breaks off. This often happens around an old, large filling. It usually doesn't affect the nerve but can be sharp to the tongue and sensitive to cold.

3. Cracked Tooth

A crack extends vertically from the chewing surface towards the root. If the crack has not reached the gum line, the tooth can often be saved with a crown. If it extends deep into the root, the tooth may need extraction.

4. Split Tooth

This is when a cracked tooth splits into two distinct segments. This is often painful and usually renders the tooth non-restorable.

Immediate Actions to Take

Save the Pieces

If a piece of tooth has broken off, try to find it. Keep it in a container of milk or your own saliva. In some cases, we can bond the original fragment back on!

Rinse Gently

Use warm water to rinse away blood or debris.

Cover Sharp Edges

If the tooth is cutting your tongue or cheek, cover it with sugar-free chewing gum or dental wax (available at pharmacies).

Cold Compress

If there was trauma to the lip or face, apply ice to the outside to reduce swelling.

Avoid Eating

Do not chew on that side of the mouth until you have been seen.

Our Restoration Options

We assess the damage using X-rays and trans-illumination lights. Depending on the extent of the break, we offer:

Composite Bonding (Immediate Fix)

For cosmetic chips or small breaks, we use a tooth-colored composite resin. We sculpt it directly onto your tooth, shaping and polishing it to match your natural enamel perfectly. This is painless, requires minimal drilling, and is completed in one appointment.

Dental Crowns (Long-Term Strength)

If a large portion of the tooth is missing, a filling may not be strong enough to withstand chewing forces. A crown (or "cap") covers the entire tooth like a helmet, holding it together and preventing the crack from spreading further.

Veneers

For front teeth with superficial damage, a porcelain veneer can provide a flawless aesthetic result, covering the front surface of the tooth.

Root Canal Treatment

If the fracture is deep and exposes the red pulp tissue (nerve), bacteria will enter and cause an infection. In this case, we must perform a root canal to remove the nerve before crowning the tooth.

Why Urgent Care Matters

Even if a broken tooth doesn't hurt immediately, the internal structure is compromised. Delaying treatment allows decay to set in rapidly or causes the crack to deepen, turning a simple repair job into an extraction. Book your slot today to save your tooth.
