For denture wearers, a broken denture is a major functional and social emergency. It affects your ability to chew, speak clearly, and smile with confidence. Dentures can break due to accidental drops, wear and tear over years, or changes in the shape of your gums causing a rocking fit that snaps the acrylic.

WARNING: Do NOT Use Superglue

It is tempting to try a home repair, but using household glue is a disaster for three reasons:

Toxicity

Superglue contains chemicals that are toxic to the mouth and can cause chemical burns.

Distortion

Glue dissolves the acrylic edge. Once you glue it, the pieces will never fit back together perfectly. This creates a rough seam that cuts your tongue and ruins the fit.

Repair Impossible

Dental technicians often cannot repair a glued denture. You will likely need to pay for a brand new set instead of a cheaper repair.

Common Types of Damage

Midline Fracture

The denture snaps cleanly in half down the middle. This is common in upper dentures and often indicates that the gums have shrunk, causing the denture to flex when you bite.

Detached Tooth

A single artificial tooth snaps off or falls out of the pink base.

Broken Clasp

On partial metal dentures, the retaining clip can snap due to metal fatigue.

Shattered Flange

A piece of the pink gum area chips off.

The Repair Process

When you bring your broken denture to us, we assess if it is repairable. If the fracture is clean:

We take an impression of your mouth (sometimes with the denture in place) to ensure the repair is accurate to your gums.

The denture is sent to our lab or repaired in-house using cold-cure high-impact acrylic.

The technician reinforces the break, sometimes adding a metal mesh for extra strength.

We polish the denture so it feels smooth and new.

Repair vs. Replacement

While we can fix most breaks, sometimes a repair is just a short-term patch. If your denture is over 5-7 years old, fits poorly, or has broken multiple times in the same spot, it is a sign that it needs relining or replacing.

A poor fit causes uneven stress, leading to repeated fractures.

We can fabricate new acrylic or chrome-cobalt dentures, often within a week, or faster for emergency cases.
